About TAPXE

TAPXE.com was started in September 2008 by two 20 something expats in Germany. We graduated from Mr. Jefferson’s University and after a few years pretending we were still in college packed up and drove a U-Haul up I95 through the Lincoln Tunnel to a character filled and very drafty apartment in Murray Hill, NYC.

Nine months, a cold winter and countless sleepless nights later we fled NYC and moved west across the river to Hoboken, NJ – home of baseball, Frank Sinatra and what used to be the Clam Broth House.  A marriage and many great times later we’re off again – wanderlust calls. This time it’s Lörrach, Germany – a friendly town with some great breweries a few kilometers outside of Basel, Switzerland.

Beyond simply sharing stories and photos from our time abroad, we hope to post information to help future expats plan and get the most out of their moves abroad. As we’re finding already, while there is lots of great information on the web the best of it comes from people who have been abroad or currently are abroad. With that in mind, if you are currently an expat and would like to help us make the world better for future expats by contributing your stories, how-to articles and photographs about living in Germany and traveling in Europe please email contribute@tapxe.com.

Tapxe.com is edited by Claire – sister of Alex, published author, prior expat and current divinity graduate student.

What’s with the name?
We’ve been getting some questions as to the significance of the name TAPXE. It’s simply E-X-P-A-T spelled backwards! Short, fun and all the simple, really descriptive domain names like GermanExpats.com have been taken.
